The audience was already on its feet.
After an incredible streak of wins, 32-year-old elementary school teacher Daniel Brooks had earned a spot in the Bonus Round with over $65,000 in cash and prizes on the line.
The category flashed across the screen:
"Phrase."
As always, the board revealed the standard letters:
R, S, T, L, N, E
Then Daniel chose his additional letters:
C, D, M, A
The puzzle appeared:
_ O _ _ O U R _ _ O T
Only a few letters were visible.
The timer hadn't even started before Daniel smiled.
Host Ryan Seacrest looked surprised.
"You already know it?" he asked.
Daniel nodded confidently.
The clock began.
Without hesitating for even a second, he blurted out:
"FOR YOUR SHOT!"
A loud buzzer echoed through the studio.
Wrong answer.
The audience gasped.
Daniel covered his face, realizing he'd rushed.
There were still nine seconds left.
He stared at the board again.
Then suddenly his eyes widened.
"OH!"
With just three seconds remaining, he shouted:
"DO YOUR BEST!"
The bell rang.
For a split second...
Silence.
Then the board lit up.
D O Y O U R B E S T
Confetti exploded from the ceiling.
The audience erupted into cheers as Ryan announced:
"That's it! You just won an additional $65,000!"
Daniel laughed so hard he nearly fell over.
Later, he admitted the reason he solved it so quickly wasn't luck.
"My mom used to write 'Do Your Best' on every lunch note she packed for school. The moment I saw those letters, it came back to me."
The crowd gave him a standing ovation—not just for winning the money, but for proving that sometimes the smallest childhood memories can lead to life's biggest moments.
